Apartments in Merida:
While there are many benefits associated with staying in the home of a host family—conversation practice & city orientation, for example--, some students opt to stay on their own in a furnished apartment while they are in Merida. The Institute of Modern Spanish can locate and reserve such accommodations for its students. (Already registered? Fill out apartment request form.) We provide this service for our students because:

Often times these apartments aren’t listed on the internet or if listed they provide only vague information. Checking for availability and current rates might mean calling long distance to Merida.
Another difficulty students face is that most rental apartments in Merida require at least a six month lease. However, since the Institute of Modern Spanish frequently works with several apartments—both individual-unit, family-run apartments and apartments in complexes made up of several units—that will accommodate stays as short as one month (four weeks). (For stays shorter then four weeks, we recommend host family stays or hotel accommodations.)
Most apartments do not accept major credit cards. If you decide to include your apartment charges on your Institute of Modern Spanish bill—the Institute of Modern Spanish will take care of your payment to the apartment complex.
The Institute of Modern Spanish can locate an apartment that fits your budget with the amenities you want. Rates on apartments vary greatly from US$500.00/month to US$1,200.00/month. One bedroom and two bedroom accommodations are available. Most apartments include air conditioning, kitchenette with cooking utensils, utilities, and parking.
Some apartments are located close to the downtown area (none are actually in the downtown area) and others are located in residential areas. The apartments located in residential areas will give their occupants a better flavor of “living as a local.” The Institute of Modern Spanish will consider apartment location in addition to price and amenities.
